P.S. 261 Magnet School for Integrating the Arts expects all students, staff and parents to continuously grow as learners and have high expectations of conduct for the entire school community.    We have a magnet theme of infusing the arts and our curriculum is enriched with a variety of art forms, including visual arts, movement, photography and music.    We focus on studentsí cognitive, social, emotional, artistic and physical development.    We believe that all members of our school community learn best in an environment that accepts and celebrates diversity, is humane, and collaborative.    We use standards driven instruction to develop students who are concerned citizens, critical thinkers and lifelong learners.

Ruth Stanislaus began the graduation gift from the Fifth graders to the school in 1997.    She was the art teacher at the time and it was her belief that the students should have a gift to leave the school in memory of each graduating class.    This tradition has continued every year since 1997.    The prior gifts are displayed in the auditorium and throughout the school.    After the exhibit, the 2001 graduation gift will be on display in the P.S. 261 Auditorium at the beginning of the 2001-2002 school year.
