Five Chinese Folktales- As a class we studied five Chinese folktales 
as part of our Social Studies unit of China.  The students selected 
the folktale and the group members that they wanted to work with.  
After deciding who would play which character, we began the three-week 
process of making the puppets.  Every child made its own puppet.  
We used instant paper mache for the heads, wooden rods to support the 
body and maneuver the arms.  The class then learned to sew in order to 
make the clothing for each puppet. After all the puppets were complete, 
we made scenery and named our puppet theater, “The Golden Dragon.”  
We invited parents, administrators, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade 
classes.  We performed all five folktales five times.
